High Velocity Fun for Folks 6 to 12 Years Old

Classes emphasize cooperation,courtesy and fun!

Aikido can be translated as The Way of Harmony. It is a nonviolent martial art based in ancient martial traditions. Students learn to receive and redirect attacks in spirals and circles without harm to the attacker.  Instructors emphasize cooperative movement as students work with partners to give and receive a wide variety of techniques. Since Aikido is a defensive art, students learn the role of attacker as well as defender, including falling and rolling safely.

There are no tournaments or competitions in Aikido. Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba taught that competition is contrary to the harmonious spirit of the art. Students earn rank based on progress in skills and techniques, tracking their progress with the help of their instructors and giving demonstrations as they achieve each new level.

Instructor Sharon Seymour began her Aikido practice in 1983 and has been teaching young people since 1984.

Assistant Instructor Wayne Johnson holds the rank of Sandan (third degree black belt). He volunteers his time to share Aikido with kids.
